The Soraya is giving away 900 free tickets for three events spanning from Oct. 28 to Nov. 12 at the Great Hall.

The shows include: “Midori Festival Strings and Lucerne,” “American Railroad Silkroad Ensemble with Rhiannon Giddens,” and “Turn it Out with Tiler Peck & Friends.”

The promotion allows CSUN students, staff and faculty to attend a variety of performances every fall.

“Midori Festival Strings Lucerne” will be Grammy Award-winning violinist Midori’s debut in Los Angeles. This season, Mindori commemorates the 40th anniversary of her professional debut. The start of her career began in 1982 at the age of 11, when she made her debut with the New York Philharmonic. This November, she will join forces with a 39-piece Swiss ensemble, including Swiss violinist and conductor Rudolf Baumgartner, in a spectacular symphony.

They will be performing a variety of pieces including: Honegger Pastorale d’été, H. 31, Dubugnon Caprice IV “Es muss sein! Op. 72 No. 4, Schumann Violin Concerto in D minor WoO 23, and Beethoven Symphony No. 4 in B-flat Major, Op. 60. The orchestra’s performance is set to take place on Nov. 9 at 8 p.m.

The last free event of the season is the multicultural ensemble Silkroad who will be joined by two-time Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning musician Rhiannon Giddens performing, “American Railroad.”

After three years in the making, “American Railroad” sheds light on the contributions made by Chinese, Native American, Irish, and other immigrant populations who built the U.S. Transcontinental Railroad and other interconnecting railways across North America. The railroad allowed civilizations to spread throughout the U.S., providing for America what the Silk Road did for Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

Silkroad’s “American Railroad” aims to present a more truthful picture of the American Empire’s global diasporic beginnings by presenting unsung tales and elevating underrepresented voices from these areas. This performance will be on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m.

Tiler Peck is a well-known ballet dancer and choreographer, who brought her “Turn It Out with Tiler Peck & Friends” performance to CSUN on Oct. 28-29. The highly anticipated performance showcased the grace and athleticism of the dancers. The show featured a superb cast of ballet performers led by Peck, a former New York City Ballet principal dancer, choreographer, actress, writer, curator, and designer.

Alongside Peck, there was a diverse group of dancers and choreographers that included Michelle Dorrance, the reigning tap dance queen, and other New York City Ballet dancers. They performed in a variety of styles, from classical ballet to modern, and everything in between.
